writer’s block and how i learned to really hate it

Remember a while back when I said I was working towards writing a story and all? Well it hasn’t gone anywhere. I’ve hit the good ol’ writer’s block.

When I was beginning to type it out I made sure to write down some notes and generally map out the plot and characters. Problem is that it works in my head but the time line is all fucked up when I try to make it out for real. Timing isn’t the only issue. Key events that I had going in my head don’t work well in the real world (for various reasons) and I want to try and make the story as realistic as possible meaning some of it needs to be cut. It is hard to choose what to cut and what not to. If I was to include everything the story would be massive and even if I wanted to split it in volumes or something to that effect it wouldn’t connect between them for linking reasons. It’s all fucked up. Part of me just wants to give up but the other wants me to keep going so I can work towards something and accomplish a feat. Whether this happens or not is going to be a bitch to figure out.

busier than a hookers pants

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. Life has been pretty crazy lately. School, work, and adventuring have been keeping me busy but I will get back to posting probably on Thursday since I have two decent sized breaks in between classes. I’ll try and think of something clever to write.

simple minded…or are we?

Simple Minded

the third year

Today was the official start of my third year of higher education. One class today while the bulk of my load is tomorrow. It is hard to believe summer is gone. I really didn’t do much at all for it aside from work. There was that week off but most of it was wasted doing nothing (or healing from the sunburn). I would say the best thing about summer was this past weekend.

So far school looks good but we’ll see how tomorrow ends up.

those unexpected adventures

This weekend has probably been the most interesting, yet good, one in the longest time. Even though the background circumstances were not the happiest they were overcome with good feelings and good times. I’ll always have it in mind. Sometimes life does throw an interesting curve ball.

google is conspiring against us

As we have seen in the last few years the internet is taking off like a rocket. Newer and newer technology is advancing the way we use the web each and every day. Google is a mighty power on the net these days and many say that they are going to eventually take over. A group called the Vacationeers have created a series of humorous videos to show the power of Google. They are quite a riot.

the bear in your ear

Most of the people I know are aware what I mainly listen to. Metal. All kinds of metal for the most part. Now granted I have a lot of metal it isn’t all I listen to. I have all sorts of music. There are genres I won’t touch, at all, but I do listen to many, many kinds of stuff. If you have ever seen my Last.fm page you will notice that one of the top eight artists I listen to is not a band, nor metal. In fact it is one of my favorite composers, Bear McCreary, of Battlestar Galactica fame.

Bear McCreary has pretty much attracted my ears since the first episode of the show. He can take any scene and make it his own with a unique style of music that is unlike 99% of television show soundtracks. His music stands out for the intensity and emotion that will suck you in. The music is its own element on the show and attaches itself to the events and characters that is unmatched by other composers.

Bear has done soundtracks not only for Battlestar Galactica but also for Eureka (another great show on SyFy), Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, and the pilot for the upcoming prequel series to Battlestar, Caprica. With every show comes a different vibe to his music. Battlestar has the most diverse soundtrack as over the seasons he has evolved with the characters and providing greater emotions, especially towards the last season. With Terminator he used notes from the films and used drums as a key part to bring an element of the forbidding machines and their unstoppable character. Eureka on the other hand is of a more lighter tone as the show is fun and full of imagination. The aspect that he can take on all these differences is what makes Bear one of the great composers of our time. I personally love his music and I hold his Battlestar Galactica soundtracks close because of how great they are.

Now for a few examples of his work from BSG, otherwise known as one of my favorite shows ever to grace the television. Warning: If you are not caught up with the show or haven’t seen it but wish to, some of the titles to the songs are spoilers. If you just want to hear the music then take the jump.

one of the two things you never bring up during dinner

Religion.

Oh boy. Such a flammable subject. Nothing gets those emotions going like a good discussion on religion. For as long as man has roamed the lands there has been religion. Groups of people with beliefs that direct one to a given lifestyle. No matter what possible thing that one can bring up, there is nothing as powerful as religion to have shaped the world as it is today. It plays a powerful role even in these modern times. Conflicts rage because of it and have been for thousands of years. The big religions like Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, and the others topple the scales in terms of followers. The smaller religions are looked down upon and some, like the infamous Scientology, are seen as cult like and not even a religion.

Granted I don’t even know what to think of when it comes to Scientology, I won’t question that people can have their beliefs. Although many people have asked me what I believe in. While I was born a Catholic and went through their shindig, I am not one to believe in “the big book.” Some say I am an Atheist because I don’t believe in God and all that. That’s not exactly what I am or what I believe.

gripping the mind

I was listening to more of Otep today and one of the songs I haven’t really listened to really grabbed me. It’s a really intense track.
